Worship is a vital part of life at CCS. All students participate in weekly, age-appropriate worship as part of participation in our Christian community and CCS’s commitment to minister to the spiritual needs of our students. We also offer ample opportunities for students to grow in their faith.
Listen as Director of Student Life & Discipleship Nathan Grubbs shares this year's chapel theme: "Formed." This year, Upper School will dive into spiritual practices, exploring the rhythms and influences that shape who we are.

Corporate Worship

CCS was founded by parents seeking a Christ-centered, biblically-integrated education for their children. That mission remains at the heart of the school today. As Christians, we believe our lives exist to glorify God, which is why we incorporate God’s truth into every aspect of our school experience. While we consider everything we do at school to be a part of a life of worship, we also want to set aside intentional time for corporate worship.

The Upper School Chapel Program is organized to provide an opportunity for community worship, minister to the needs of students, and proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of Christ. Chapel at CCS offers a time of rest as we pause to encounter God together during the week. It also provides a unique, weekly opportunity to minister to the needs of our student body. Our goal is to worship both through dialogue by hearing God’s word spoken to us and by responding to God through music.
We look forward to this time each week as faculty and students reflect on their shared need for God and his transformative work in their lives. It is our prayer that the chapel will be used by God to grow his covenant children in the grace of Christ and the fellowship of the Spirit so that their lives will be filled with worship and fruitfulness.

CCS staff members and frequent outside speakers deliver messages to the school community.  Our music is provided by students from our Worship Arts class as well as musical guests from local churches, colleges, and ministries. The chapel program exposes students to a variety of Christian worship cultures so that they may have a deepened understanding of the diversity within God’s Kingdom and a broadened empathy for his people. To this end, our worship band incorporates music from a variety of church traditions.

Worship Arts

The Chapel program is organized by a team of students and faculty working with the Director of Student Life and Discipleship to plan services. Students participate in all aspects of the chapel program including music, Scripture reading, prayer, and testimonies. The worship service is contemporary, Evangelical, and broadly Reformed.

Students lead worship are required to take the Worship Arts elective, a semester- or year-long course focused on preparing Middle and High School chapel worship music. The structure of their course offers dedicated time for practice and training, so students can thoughtfully prepare for chapel and also leave CCS equipped with the tools needed to lead worship in their church community.

Spiritual Emphasis Opportunities

  • BIBLE STUDIES

Bible studies are led by both teachers and students. Opportunities vary depending on school level and interest.
  • CHAPEL

All students meet once a week for chapel. The normal chapel service is structured much like a Sunday worship service, with music and teaching geared toward students.
  • CLASS DAYS & RETREATS

Upper School students all spend some time off campus, often in nature, to deepen friendships. Overnight trips include time for devotions and worship as a community. Connecting with one another outside of class not only builds faith and community, but it also supports the academic experience through connecting teachers and students and giving students time to reflect on goals and plans for the upcoming school year.
  • COMMUNITY SERVICE

Every year during Homecoming, CCS partners with a local organization to support their work in the community. High School and Middle School service clubs lead activities and opportunities throughout the year designed to give back to the community.
  • FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES

Led by Head Football Coach Grant Reynolds, FCA “seeks to make disciples through engaging, equipping, and empowering coaches and athletes to know and grow in Christ.” The group meets once a week and welcomes all Upper School students.
  • SMALL GROUPS

Our high school cultivates healthy, Christ-centered community through group gatherings known as GROW. GROW groups provide opportunities for students to connect within the larger community and ensure that each students will know and be known by a small group of fellow students and adult leaders.

Student Life & Discipleship

The Director of Student Life & Discipleship cares for the spiritual needs of Upper School students including student life, spiritual formation, and discipleship. This department focuses on the intentional integration of academic life, student life activities, chapel, student small groups, and co-curricular activities all aimed towards the development and discipleship of the whole child, both inside and outside of the classroom.
