Taking advantage of the 3 gyms and 2 sand volleyball courts that the campus at CCS provides, our volleyball teams compete in the TSSAA against top schools in the region. Our coaching staff seeks to guide our female athletes toward excellence in the game through developing their God-given talents. In 2018, the High School varsity team went 36-11, won the Hixson Invitational, and was District Champion and Sub State Champion(DII-A).
Since then, our East Region no longer hosts a district tournament but in 2019, our volleyball team attended the TSSAA DII-AA Elite 8 game, our first AA state playoff tournament berth. CCS Volleyball has a rich history of preparing athletes to compete at the next level representing NCAA DI - DIII and NAIA. In 2022, CCS celebrated an athlete sign to compete at the NCAA DI level.
Volleyball Coach Sophia Bossong offers a wealth of playing experience and knows what it takes to play at the NCAA Division I level. She was a four-time high school All-American, held the Tennessee high school state record for most career assists (5,265), and was ranked 7th for all-time career assists by NFHS. In Sophia’s freshman year at UTC, she was one of two players to start all 30 matches. She surpassed 2,000 career assists during her sophomore year and finished that season earning 8th place all-time assists at UTC.
Sophia was equally committed to high academic standards as she was to her volleyball career, earning numerous all-academic awards along with Deans Lists and AD Honor Roll—an emphasis we want all our Chargers to value.
Laura O’Dell, UTC’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) representative told us, “...She is passionate about using her volleyball platform to influence younger girls for the Kingdom and help guide them in their pursuit of Jesus through their sport.”
