CCS Theatre Wins 10 Jewel Awards

Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) theatre students took top honors at the first Jewel Awards, Chattanooga’s high school musical theatre awards program, with a record 10 awards, more than any other school nominated. The awards recognized the outstanding work in the school’s high school musical production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”
The awards included: Best Choreography, Best Music Direction, Best Orchestra, Outstanding Supporting Actress (Sophia Taylor), Outstanding Vocalist (Jack DuRoy), Outstanding Vocalist (R.C. Moore), Outstanding Dancer (Andrew Billingsley), Outstanding Dancer (Lovett Hogstrom), Outstanding Stage Manager (Mackenzie Gulaas), as well as Adjudicators’ Choice Awards for Outstanding Audience Engagement. The event featured performances from each nominated production as well as the Best Actor and Best Actress finalists, including Ethan Stoddard who played Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof.”

According to their website, the Jewel Awards “seek to cultivate a theatre community that supports, encourages, and grows high school theatre programs. Each year, participating schools have access to community-building and learning opportunities as they work toward their musical productions. At the Adjudication Level, schools will receive constructive feedback and scores from a panel of theatre, music, dance, and design professionals.”

Seven schools participated in the inaugural year: Boyd-Buchanan School, Chattanooga Christian School, Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts, Christian Heritage School, East Hamilton High School, Grace Academy, and Signal Mountain High School. Girls Preparatory School/McCallie School and Silverdale Baptist Academy also joined us as Community Level participants.
