Coach Katie Stanford serves as both our Head Cross Country and Head Track & Field Coach, the 5th in the program’s 23+ year history. She most recently spent 11 years as the Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field at Covenant College, where she spearheaded the addition of track and field in 2017. While at Covenant, she acquired many notable accolades during her time, including three individual men's Cross Country Conference titles, two individual women's Cross Country Conference titles, the 2014 USA South Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, and the USA South Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017.
Prior to Covenant, Katie served a four-year stint at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as the cross country assistant, assistant track coach, and head recruiter. While at UTC, the Lady Mocs were the Southern Conference cross country champions from 2006-2008 and runner-ups in 2005, 2007, and 2008. She has coached every track and field event and holds certifications from USATF and USTFCCCA.
Coach Stanford earned a B.A. in political science from Samford University (NCAA DI) where she competed for the Bulldogs in cross country and indoor and outdoor track. During her collegiate career, she twice earned All-Conference track honors and was the Atlantic Sun Conference 1500 meter champion in 2002. Katie also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of West Georgia.
Coach Stanford is well known in the running community for her ability to develop competitive athletes while passionately pushing them toward Jesus Christ. Katie excels in helping incoming runners with a wide range of experience compete well above their previous demonstrated ability levels.
Katie and her husband, Trey, live on Lookout Mountain and have two children, Taylor (current CCS student) and Noah. The Stanford family attends Calvary Chapel at the foot of Lookout Mountain.
