The CCS girls basketball program is known for its fast pace offense and high intensity pressure defense. The Chargers continue to build upon its strong tradition with back-to-back 20 win seasons and a trip to the State Tournament in 2018. The girls basketball program has a long resume of players continuing their careers at the DI, DII, DIII and NAIA levels and even professionally.
Head Coach Laura Cottrell came to Chattanooga serving as an Assistant coach at UT Chattanooga as they won the SoCon Championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. After three seasons with the Lady Mocs, Cottrell took the head coaching position at Baylor School, coaching her team to a Region Championship and a berth in the TSSAA DII state tournament semi-finals. Cottrell was then Head Coach and Athletic Director at David Brainerd Christian School for 5 years before coming to CCS. Cottrell was recently selected to the ACC 50-year Anniversary team for women’s basketball.
Cottrell played DI college basketball at Clemson University where she was a three-year starter and ranks in the top five in career rebounding. She lead the Lady Tigers in field goal percentage for three years, scoring over 1000 points and landing in the top 15 career points at Clemson. She was MVP of the Northern Lights Tournament in Alaska in 1997 and earned ACC MVP honors in the 1996 ACC tournament as the Lady Tigers won their first ever ACC championship in basketball.
